May 2012 Demonstrations

Society members were entertained and educated with three simultaneous demonstrations ably assisted by Master of Ceremonies Joe.  Steve demonstrated how to remove and apply root grafts to a Trident Maple.  Sally showed how to take a couple of interesting mallee roots, a few small Junipers, Mondo grass and some moss to create a very impressive Saikei or planted landscape.  Gerard was able to take several trees and selected rocks and show how to get a root over rock bonsai started.  Many helpful hints and discussions about particular aspects of the processes were shared.

Saturday Styling Review

Pine – Root over Rock

BSV members enjoyed another Saturday afternoon sharing views on styling issues.  Tree varieties included Kunzea ericoides(White Tea Tree), Pinus contorta(Shore Pine), Wisteria, Japanese Maple and Black Pine to name a few.  Also, pot selection issues generated their usual healthy discussion.  BSV members are encouraged to bring a couple of trees and join in the discussion.  $3 entry.
