BSV Bonsai Exhibition 6 & 7 October 2012

It is that time of the year to start getting your trees ready for the annual Bonsai Exhibition to be held at the Box Hill Town Hall on the 6 & 7 October 2012.  Trees for display will need to be delivered to the Box Hill Town Hall on Friday 5 October.  It would be a great help to the organisers if you could let them know the number, size and type of trees you will be displaying.
Entry to the Exhibition will cost $5 ( BSV Members free) and the Exhibition will be open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sunday.  Start spreading the word now.  Sale tables will be available and some demonstrations will be organised.
If BSV members are able to help with the organisation and running of the Exhibition, please include your name on the list available at Society meetings or contact the Committee.

BSV Bonsai Beginners Session at June Workshop

Another Beginners session covering branch styling and foliage placement is planned for next Mondays Workshop. The session will commence with a discussion and if you are participating, bring a tree or two as there should be an opportunity to apply the learnings.  Wire, tree and basic tools would be a good idea if you want to try and style your trees on the night.

Saturday Styling Review – June

A small group of Society Members met in the cosy venue to share views on a range of challenging styling issues.  Trees included English Elms, Maples, Junipers,  Pines and Tea Trees. There was a strong view that English Elms need to be fed heavily to avoid die back.  Photos of a couple of the trees discussed with their proud owners are included below.
