In the absence of a regular Saturday meeting in August, you can still indulge yourself in bonsai by visiting the Waverley Bonsai Show or enrolling in a workshop at Bendigo. Enquiries to the respective clubs for details please.
Another Beginners session covering branch styling and foliage placement is planned for next Mondays Workshop. The session will commence with a discussion and if you are participating, bring a tree or two as there should be an opportunity to apply the learnings. Wire, tree and basic tools would be a good idea if you want to try and style your trees on the night.
Time is running out to get a place in the Bonsai Society of Victoria workshops with bonsai Master Hirotoshi Saitoh. See LINK section on the right of this blog to obtain a copy of the program. Get your application in fast.
A small group of Society Members met in the cosy venue to share views on a range of challenging styling issues. Trees included English Elms, Maples, Junipers, Pines and Tea Trees. There was a strong view that English Elms need to be fed heavily to avoid die back. Photos of a couple of the trees discussed with their proud owners are included below.
