October 2012 Demonstration on Branch Development

Members were treated to an entertaining and informative discussion about secondary and tertiary branch development in deciduous trees.  David used several different trees to show how significant secondary branch growth could be achieved in as little as six weeks with judicious pruning.  Add some wiring to create a foliage pad and you are well on your way to a new bonsai – see photos below.

There were also several excellent display trees and included below are a couple of samples.  Members are also reminded that the November meeting is the AGM and it would be appreciated if you could bring a plate of food to help celebrate the end of another successful year.

2012 BSV Annual Exhibition

Thank you to all those visitors to the Bonsai Society of Victoria’s 2012 Annual Exhibition.  We are sure you enjoyed the many wonderful trees on display and found some great buys in the sales area.  Many thanks to all the club members for displaying their trees and helping with the organisation of the show.  It ensured it was a great success.

October 2012 Demonstration

At the October demonstration, David Allen will talk about developing branch structures and growth habits in deciduous trees.  The focus will be on secondary and tertiary branches for Plum, Ash, Oak and Hawthorn trees.  Grant Bowie was originally scheduled but has been unable to join us at this time.
